1840 Mulready
One Penny Lettersheets
A16, 1840 (7 May) local London lettersheet addressed to St. Pauls Churchyard, misfolded originally showing the "postage" panel at top with Britannia cancelled twice (originally once each side of the cover) in a crisp orange-red Maltese Cross, with a superb strike of London "PD" datestamp clearly dated "my 7/1840" and a superb strike of "T.P./S.O.Islington", manuscript on the reverse, "Not known as directed in St Pauls Church yd"; there is a reinforced central folding crease with minor discolouration. A stunning and highly unusual example of a second day usage. Photo
