Lot: 5407

Great Britain
1841-53 One Penny Red-Brown
Plate 105, SG with clear margins all round, and Plate 110, LK with very large margins on three sides, just touched at upper left, tied by French "angl./28/mars/51" datestamp only to 1851 (27 March) envelope from London to the Pyrenees with London Maltese Cross datestamp "paid/cT/7 mr/27/1851" and "pd" in circle, both in red, rated at "2/1"; the reverse with "pau/30/mars/51" d.s. The letter appears to have been paid in cash, making the two 1d. stamps superfluous and uncancelled in Great Britain, the French post office applying their receiving d.s. to additionally cancel the stamps; reverse flap with small tear otherwise fine and most unusual.
