1870 (7 Sept.) envelope ex the "Mrs Jackson" correspondence from Sydney, marked "Via Southampton, Per R.M.S. Avoca", bearing New South Wales 6d. violet and 1/- carmine tied by duplex, showing framed "insufficiently/stamped", crayon "11", handstruck "1d" and London Paid transit c.d.s., all in red; the envelope with part flap missing. A colourful franking marked to go via Marseilles but diverted via Southampton to avoid the Brindisi 3d. surcharge due to the Franco-Prussian war. Photo
