1896 (29 Aug.) small stampless Gunzburg envelope registered to Shanghai, crossed with red crayon and bearing a fine strike of the unframed "registered/no 265" in red and, on the reverse, a fine strike of the Chinkiang c.d.s., Shanghai Local Post c.d.s. (30.8) in red and the postman's delivery characters in red crayon. A fine and scarce use of the unframed registered handstamp, unusually without the Paid handstamp. Photo

The unframed registered handstamp was introduced in the first half of 1896, probably in June.
