Spink has this week enjoyed a successful end to the year's calendar of banknote auctions, with many of the 1250 lots surpassing their estimates.

The star of the show was the Qatar & Dubai 25 Riyals (Lot 794), which garnered significant interest before selling for £31,200, well over its starting price.

A very rare and desirable note, the Qatar & Dubai Currency Board 25 Riyals opened today's auction with a flourish, and was one of a number of notes that stood out during this two-day sale.

Other highlights include the 1938 Banco de Espana specimen 5000 pesetas (Lot 888), which hit £14,400, well over double its estimate of £5,000-6,000.
