Spink China | Spink is excited to announce a new auction experience with our next bespoke wine auction, An Evening of Precious Whiskies and Cognacs on the 17^th September 2015 in our Hong Kong office. An event which promises to benefit from the thriving current wine market in Hong Kong. Among many tried and tested popular items are some tucked-away rarities and truly delightful pieces for the connoisseur.      

The auction begins with some truly legendary liquors; lots 1 and 2 are from the extraordinary Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. Much prestige clings to this particular distillery, and Spink is honored to be offering two bottles of Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Lot 1 is a straight bourbon whiskey that has been aged for 15 years, like all modern bourbons, Van Winkle bourbons are made primarily from corn and aged in charred new oak barrels. However, a distinguishing feature of Van Winkle bourbons is their use of wheat as the secondary ingredient instead of the usual rye, and their additional inclusion of barley malt.

We also can't wait to present the second lot of the sale, another from the Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery, a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve Straight Bourbon Whiskey, aged 20 years.

This lot is also the Double Gold Award winner at the 2014 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Only 7000 cases of Pappy van Winkles whiskies are released every year, it is so rare that the Wall Street Journal described it as "You could call it bourbon, or you could call it a $5,000 bottle of liquefied, barrel-aged unobtanium."    

Lot 2, Starting price: HK$10,000 

The rest of the sale holds some of the finest rarities in whisky collecting. From the legendary distillery of Karuizawa come four masterpieces to grace the event. Karuizawa is now one of the most famous whisky distilleries in Japan. It was founded in 1955 and situated on a beautiful vineyard in Asama of Karuizawa. It was a small distillery but its ambitions were big. Karuizawa adopted the top standard in making of whisky. It used the famous barley Golden Promise, and only distilled in small batches, aging their spirits in the finest Spanish sherry casks that made Karuizawa achieve a quality akin to malt perfection. Lot 170 comprises of many of the rarest aged Single Malts respectively aged 28, 27 and 26 years in the traditional and trademark style.
