Sir William Hamilton
1792 (28 July) entire letter from Naples to an unknown addressee who, it is hoped, will be able to assist in the making available of funds from a banker in Naples "that may be thought immediately helpfull. It would indeed make me very happy if I could prove of any use to me old and respected friend Lord Macartney, and save you a journey which might prejudice your health.". Signed "Wm. Hamilton". Letter separated in two horizontally as the result of an old fold, otherwise fine and very legible.

Notes: In February of 1792, Lord Macartney was preparing the 'Macartney Expedition' which set out from Portsmouth aboard the HMS Lion. It is known that Macartney hired four Chinese Catholic Priests for this expedition, two of whom were hired from the Collegium Sinicum in Naples, where Hamilton was Ambassador.
Hamilton is probably best known now as the husband of Lady Emma Hamilton, Nelson's mistress
