1872 (10 Oct.) opened-out envelope to Madam G. Vapereau in Montauban, France via "Brindisi" bearing Hong Kong 1863-71 6c. and 12c. (both overlapping the edge of the envelope) paying the premium rate cancelled by a good strike of Shanghai "S1" in turquoise-blue (type II) with "P.D." in red and "poss ang v brind/a mod." transit (23.11).
The reverse bearing a very good strike of the double oval "customs house/shanghai/paid" dated oval in red with Shanghai (10.10), Hong Kong (15.10) and French transit and arrival c.d.s. There is some soiling, particularly where the adhesives have been creased. A very scarce and important cover, less than 20 Customs House dated ovals have been recorded
